Year 7-10 Reflection Days
The College recognises the importance of students needing to step back from their normal schedule and reflect on themselves, their spiritual life and other people around them. During the reflection days, students are engaged in enthusiastic and lively sessions which allow them time for self reflection and growth both personally and spiritually.
Year 7 students join together on this retreat which has been created for a smoother transition to secondary schools. It bringing students together from around the Diocese to meet like-minded peers, who want to celebrate, grow and be supported in their Christian faith.
Year 8 students join together from around the Diocese to connect and share as disciples of Jesus Christ. There are many fun activities over the retreat and a fantastic opportunity if you are just starting your faith journey and learn in a friendly and relaxed environment with like-minded people around.
Catch the Wave
Year 9 students are given the opportunity of a retreat day, with fellow Year 10 students from St Joseph’s College and Mt St Patrick’s College, Murwillumbah. It is used to provide a faith experience for students as they begin their Youth Ministry journey in the Youth Ministry Class. For some, this may be the first time they could truly make a response to faith in their lives and for others, it may enrich and strengthen their relationship with God.
Students from Years 9, 10 and 11, enjoy a two day conference with more than 600 young people from around the Diocese. They celebrate their faith and make new skills in the peer-to-peer ministry. Enjoying praise, prayer, worship, with inspiring speakers, and in workshops.
Students from Year 10, 11 and 12 have the opportunity to go to Ignite Conference. Ignite is a national Catholic youth conference held in Brisbane over four days. The conference offers a dynamic faith opportunity where students will have the chance to mix with 1500+ adults, students, ministry leaders, teachers, priests and religious from around the country.
The Kairos Retreat is for students in Year 10 and Year 11. It aims to create an environment away, a moment in “God’s Time” in which students can be awakened to the ever-present love of God. Through peer ministry, students experience Christian leadership, support, and community. Students through this experience grow in understanding of themselves and how God fits into their lives.
Students in Year 11 and 12 mix with senior students from around the Diocese and brainstorm ways in which they can help the St Joseph’s College community to shine with the light of the Holy Spirit. Student’s learn about ways in which they can play an active role in the school’s Senior Youth Ministry Team.
Year 11 students from across the Diocese reach out to those in need when they spend a long weekend in Brisbane working on a range of social justice programs.
Year 11 Vietnam Immersion
An opportunity to live the words of St Paul to the Galatians “Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.” The students that travel to Vietnam are immersed in the culture and history of the people, work with the Loreto Australia/Vietnam Program assisting children with disabilities and help build a house in the Mekong.
Year 11 Leadership Camp
Students engaged in a range of activities which present them with personal challenges, allowing them to identify qualities of strong leadership and their own strengths as young adults. It is an opportunity for the personal growth and development of students and encourages them as they enter into their Senior years within the College.
Year 12 Retreat
Students at St Joseph’s College are aided in the development of their spiritual awareness, and the Year 12 Retreat is the culmination of this. The Retreat gives students the opportunity and time to reflect upon their lives – past, present and future. Students are involved in sessions and discussions which allow them to be outward looking as well as inwardly focused.
Students come together from around the Parish to form a group of enthusiastic school aged youth who gather to regularly celebrate our faith and gather in fellowship. Together students live and learn about their Catholic faith, and enthusiastically share the gift of our faith with other like minded individuals. The monthly Youth Group offers students the opportunity to enjoy a range of fun games and grow in their faith and spiritual formation, in a joyous environment.
St. Joseph’s Parish Youth Mass runs directly after the Parish Youth Group on the final Sunday of every month. Modern music, which is facilitated by students and youth involvement in ministry are the distinctive features of this Mass. Students along with their peers and family members are invited to attend the parish Youth Mass which celebrates the Catholic community.
